Job Search Websites

*In most cities it is free to post job openings on Craig’s List so it is a very popular choice for employers.  You can also post your resume or job wanted ads for free.  Just be careful to avoid scams.  Before sending your resume, with personal information, please make sure that you know the name of the company.  If the name is not listed on the ad send a quick email requesting the name.  Then check to see if you can apply through the company’s website rather than going through Craig’s List.  It is very easy to pretend that you are something that you are not on-line.   www.craigslist.org

*Indeed takes job listing from a long list of other job search sites so you can often do one stop shopping rather than going to a dozen other sites.  When you click on a job lead it will redirect you to the lead on the site it appears on (example-Monster.com) but you can easily get back to Indeed and continue where you left off.  www.indeed.com

*Your state will have it’s own government job board as well as Job Center website.  So look for sites in your own state.  Your county and city may also have their own job board.   www.wisc.jobs; http://www.cityofmadison.com/employment/employmentListings.cfm

*Check local university and tech school websites for student job boards.  Many of the jobs posted on these sites are open to the public and do not require a federal work study etc.  http://www.jobcenter.wisc.edu/

Local radio and television stations sometimes have job postings on their websites.

To work for the Federal Government search:  http://www.usajobs.gov/

If you are interested in a particular company, look for their website.  With the unemployment rate so high, employers are publicly posting job leads less frequently because they are getting inundated with applications and resumes.
